The Senior Sailing program at SSYC consists of a series two races for any sailboat at SSYC. Those new to racing are welcome, no previous race experience is necessary to join in. Brief rules and instruction seminars can be held prior to he events as requested. The races are both Pursuit/Chase Style races in which the slower boats start early and the faster later. Class splits are applied if enough participants and a range of ratings dictates. This allows for an uncongested starting line and definitive , immediate results upon finish. Provisional ratings will be assigned to any boat without a formal rating. These are Main and Jib only , Spinnakers or Asymmetrical Headsails are not allowed.
If you would like to become a better sailor, try racing in the SSYC Sr Sailing races this year! Both races are followed by an on the floats award presentation. The Senior Sailing Turnabout races are held in the evenings a few times per season. Classic racing starts and rules will apply. The Senior Sailing Committee encourages any suggestions for improvements, feel free to contact us at [email protected] If you would like to see a simple version of the basic rules of sailboat racing, Click HERE.
